My Journey to Yoga Nidra
When I first started meditating I believed I was doing everything wrong and always failed at committing to a practice. What I have learned is, there is no “wrong” way to meditate. I’m a firm believer that there is no best way to meditate other than whatever method you can show up to consistently.
When I quit my corporate job, I was determined to finally commit to a regular meditation practice. I no longer had the excuse of not having enough time. I have studied many different methods including Vedic meditation (similar to Transcendental Meditation), Kundalini, Mindfulness meditation, breath work, Tantric meditation, and Yoga Nidra (to name a few).
Yoga Nidra is my current favorite method as I find it the easiest for me to show up consistently and I fall in deep each time. It translates to yogic sleep and you do it laying down - in Savasana! With all my injuries sitting up right often makes the discomfort too distracting to meditate as deep and in Nidra this problem is taken away!
While Yoga Nidra, also known as "sleep meditation", has many many benefits, one of the most impactful ones for me currently is learning how to let go. Physically letting go of tension in my body, mentally letting go of recurring thoughts and patterns, and getting better sleep as well! It is said a 30 minute yoga nidra practice can feel like a 3+ hour nap. It also helps calm the nervous system reducing anxiety which is something that has had a huge impact for me.
30 Minute Yoga Nidra Reset Class
I currently offer a public 30 minute Yoga Nidra Reset class every Wednesday at Noon PST via Zoom. I am also available to teach at private events or on zoom.
